Location: Johnson Space Center Houston, TX
Agency Owner: NASA
Project Status: Completed
Project Scope: Project included replacement of two existing chillers with two new 2,000-ton steam turbine driven centrifugal York chillers, including associated piping, controls, electrical and associated general construction work. A bid option to replace an existing boiler with a new 60,000 lb/hr boiler with economizer was exercised by NASA. Scope of work for this 25,000 SF, two story, four room, existing steel frame central plant included demolition of existing chillers and boiler and installation of two new chillers and one boiler. Temporary structural reinforcing was required to rig equipment into place. This was a multiple phase project involving one chiller per phase. Construction trades included electrical, mechanical piping, plumbing, asbestos abatement, demolition, concrete finishers, laborers, steel erectors, precast concrete wall panel removal and reinstallation, painters and control technicians. Systems installed included chilled and condenser water (16”) and steam and condensate (2-3”), fuel oil, natural gas and instrumentation. (1037)
